Check System Requirements
Review Security Considerations for a SQL Server Installation
Back up your current installation of SQL Server
Review Check Parameters for the System Configuration Checker
Shut down anti-virus software while installing SQL Server
Review all SQL Server installation options and select the required options
File location considerations
Set the proper collation
Make sure you have administrator permissions on the computer where SQL Server
will be installed
Create one or more domain user accounts if you are installing on a computer
running Microsoft Windows XP® or Microsoft Windows® 2000, and you want SQL
Server 2005 to communicate with other clients and servers
Shut down all services that depend on SQL Server
Shut down Event Viewer and registry viewers
Verifying the Installation
Verify Setup summary log file
Check whether SQL Server service is running in Control Panel
Double-click Administrative Tools
Double-click Services
Look for the corresponding service name
Launch SQL Server 2005 Management Studio
